October 14, 2019Dear friends and family,
Thank you for attending and/or donating to the 8th Annual TEAM ARNONE Fundraiser to raise funds and awareness for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. With your help, TEAM ARNONE raised $12,230 and we are striving to raise over $25,000 in PurpleStride Philadelphia 2019. A special thanks to The Emerald Room and Mario’s Caterers for the excellent food and service, Jim Seravalli for his outstanding DJ services, our silent auction donors and all the people who donated the amazing raffle baskets! Since the first PurpleStride Philadelphia in 2007, and with this year’s donation, TEAM ARNONE will have donated over $200,000 to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Founded in 1999, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. This 4-star charity, which is the national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure, raises money for direct private funding of research and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. PanCAN is leading the way to increase the survival rate for the disease through a bold initiative-The Vision of Progress: Double the Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate by 2020. We will achieve this goal by intensifying our efforts to heighten awareness, raise funds for comprehensive private research and advocate for more federal research funding to advance early diagnostics and better treatments.
Each year members of TEAM ARNONE are invited to a Leadership Breakfast in Philadelphia to hear the latest news on pancreatic cancer. What we learned on September 18th was encouraging. Researchers, surgeons and oncologists in Philadelphia all work together with the hope of finding a major breakthrough. Their meetings may take place in a lab or at the corner pub integrating findings among institutions. According to Rick Leonard of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network “9% isn’t good enough! We need to get to 100%! We are partners in this effort!” We heard from a 2x survivor of pancreatic cancer tell us how lucky we are to live in Philadelphia, a city that has the best institutions in the world. The second speaker, Jaylen Baron, 17 years old, and Miss Philadelphia Teen talked about how pancreatic cancer took her mother. She is using her platform to raise awareness and create hope. Part of the research of Dr. Campbell’s lab (Fox Chase) is understanding the micro environment of the tumor and what makes it resistant to therapies. Dr. Posey (Jefferson) spoke about early detection. Dr. Vollmer (HUP) related that pancreatic cancer has fewer $ and fewer resources. We need to continue our fight to change these statistics.
TEAM ARNONE IS participating in PurpleStride in memory of Robert Arnone because we want to join the fight and make a difference. On event day, we will be striding with thousands of other people impacted by this disease. Your donation will help fund research, provide support for patients and caregivers, and most importantly create hope!
If you haven’t already done so, please sign up to walk or donate to a member on the TEAM ARNONE page;

With sincere appreciation,
TEAM ARNONE
