300 Ton Lifting Beam
Background
Our client, a company in the energy sector, needed to transport a 270-ton rotor through their plant via crane. Their crane capacity was 100 ton each so we design a lifting beam, a type of below the hook device (BTH), set to utilize all three of their 100-ton cranes. The beam set was designed with a 1.25% safety rating and was rated for 300-tons. Once cranes were attached the two forward cranes were placed in a “brake off” configuration and the rear crane did the pushing of the two forward cranes.
Results
The lifting beam complies with the ANSI-B 30-20 standard for below the hook (BTH) lifting devices and was designed with one center lifting lug for use with 100-ton cranes. The beam length was 360 inches with 13 lifting holes on each side with a total maximum lifting weight of 300 tons.
