After 30 years with ENSER, Senior Project Engineer Lance Blackshear is retiring. We celebrate his engineering career, contributions to nuclear engineering support, and next chapter.

Charlotte, NC – After three decades of dedication, technical expertise, and innovation, ENSER celebrates the retirement of Senior Project Engineer Lance Blackshear. On October 2, 2026, Lance will mark exactly 30 years with ENSER, concluding a career that has made him an integral part of our North Carolina engineering team.

Lance joined ENSER on October 2, 1996, beginning his career with the company as a Designer. Over the next three decades, he grew into his current role as Senior Project Engineer, contributing his experience and technical expertise to a wide range of engineering projects and supporting the growth of ENSER’s nuclear engineering capabilities.

“Lance has been an integral part of our company for the last 30 years and was essential in the growth of our Nuclear engineering support capacity. His contributions will always be valued and remembered, as he was integral to innovation in our engineering team. His diligence, commitment, and dedication are worthy of admiration. It is rare to find a person with high character, loyalty, and drive!”

— Marco Arnone, President of ENSER

A Career Spanning Engineering’s Digital Evolution

Lance earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville in 1989. His career with ENSER has spanned a period of significant change in mechanical engineering and design technology.

When Lance joined ENSER in 1996, the transition from traditional 2D CAD work to 3D design was just beginning to take shape. Over the course of his career, he experienced that evolution firsthand, adapting alongside new technology, tools, and engineering processes while continuing to solve complex design challenges for ENSER customers.

A Wide Range of Engineering Work

For Lance, one of the most rewarding parts of his career has been the variety of engineering work that came through ENSER.

“The thing I enjoyed most about working at ENSER was the diverse project work we obtained. Everything from large-scale fabrications to small, highly precise tools and gauges. Such a wide range of customers and projects kept things interesting.”

— Lance Blackshear, Senior Project Engineer

That diversity has long been part of ENSER’s approach to engineering. From large-scale equipment and fabrication projects to highly precise tooling and design challenges, our engineers work across applications, industries, and customer needs to develop practical engineering solutions.

Thirty Years of Commitment

Lance’s 30-year career reflects something ENSER has long valued: the experience and commitment of the people behind our engineering solutions. Now celebrating its 79th year, ENSER has been built by individuals who bring technical expertise, innovation, and dedication to their work. Lance’s three decades with the company are a testament to that tradition.

While we will miss his expertise, problem-solving skills, and daily presence in the Charlotte office, we are excited for Lance as he begins his next chapter.

In retirement, Lance is looking forward to traveling more, working in the yard, supporting animal rescue efforts, playing golf, riding bikes, and spending more time enjoying the people and activities that matter most to him.

After exactly 30 years of service, Lance leaves ENSER with our gratitude for the knowledge, loyalty, dedication, and engineering experience he has brought to the company throughout his career.

On behalf of the entire ENSER team, congratulations to Lance on an incredible 30 years. We wish him all the best in a joyful and well-deserved retirement.

Industries We Support

  • Aerospace: Optimize weight and structural integrity for flight-critical components. Ensure durability in high-vibration and pressurized environments. Use modal analysis to avoid resonant frequency issues.
  • Automotive: Validate crashworthiness, NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness), fatigue life of chassis components, and thermal stability of underhood assemblies. Support design of electric vehicle battery casings and cooling systems.
  • Energy: Ensure structural integrity of turbines, piping systems, and support structures under thermal and mechanical loading. Analyze thermal stresses in weldments, simulate pressure cycling effects, and model fluid-structure interaction.
  • Industrial Equipment: Optimize weight and structural integrity for flight-critical components. Ensure durability in high-vibration and pressurized environments. Use modal analysis to avoid resonant frequency issues.
  • Defense: Validate crashworthiness, NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness), fatigue life of chassis components, and thermal stability of underhood assemblies. Support design of electric vehicle battery casings and cooling systems.
